OLDEST PROFESSIONAL PUPPET THEATRE IN CROATIA 

Establishing Sokol Puppet Theatre in 1933. opened a new page in the theater history in Split. The first premiere was play «Brave prince» play performed on 26th of November 1933. Group Split puppeteers gathered around Duje Marasovića, Bonifacije Kalebić and Vlaho Linardovic is active until the end of 1938. when faint Sokol Split Puppet Theatre. Five-year continuous activity, a large number of plays and their value have contributed to an easier transition into a period of professionalism. Split City Puppet Theatre was founded on 8th March in 1945. The Puppet Theatre «Pioneer». The first premiere was adaptation of the Russian story «Green hill». It is held on 2nd of August 1945. 
The first head-master was Mirko Bozic who has in two years mapped out the direction that the repertoire of Split puppeteers will keep and develop up to this day. Contribution to the development of puppetry in Split gave many dilligent workers of this theater as well as well-known names from the theatrical, literary and visual arts. We shall mention only a few: beside already mentioned Mirko Božić, part of their art manuscripts left Vojmil Rabadan, Ivica Tolic, D. Mladinov, Momcilo Popadić, Vasko Lipovac ... Split Puppet Theatre becomes firm and unvoidable point on Croatian puppet map. This is confirmed by numerous appearances on puppetry festivals in the country and abroad and a series of awards that the ensemble of the theater received. The biggest prize is still an audience that for decades through this theater performances rejoicing. And yearly over sixty thousand spectators pass through theater.
